ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Dr. Margaret Maytan is a psychiatrist with extensive training and experience in the practice of mind-body-spirit medicine. She is the co-founder of Koru Mindfulness and co-author of Mindfulness for the Next Generation, a manual for this evidence-based approach. Dr. Maytan is passionate about promoting positive and profound changes in the lives of others.

 

Join Dr. Maytan to learn Koru Mindfulness in a 4-session group series where she introduces and guides you in the cultivation and practice of mindfulness and teaches specific stress management skills that can offer immediate relief to stress and anxiety.

EVIDENCE-BASED CURRICULUM

Week One

Learn Diaphragmatic Breathing to reduce anxiety, and improve sleep; Dynamic Breathing to focus attention and energize your body; and Body Scan to bring your awareness into the present moment.

Week Two

You will gain practice in Walking Mediation, helping anchor you to the present moment and Gatha, a meditative poem to help improve focus and attention to your breath.

Week Three

This session will include Guided Imagery, allowing your nervous system to quiet and calm and Labeling Thoughts, a technique that makes it easier to release your thoughts and stay non-judgmentally present.

Week Four

Here you will practice Eating Meditation, enhancing the pleasure in eating and allowing you to eat more mindfully as well as Labeling Feelings to improve emotion regulation.
