Jeff DeRoche, MSW, LCSW

Jeff is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing psychotherapy to adults and adolescents. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Columbia University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work at New York University. He spent a decade working in outpatient mental health settings and private practice in New York City before relocating to North Carolina. Very little surprises him, and he is comfortable working with just about anyone. He has received specialized training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic psychotherapy, the DBT Prolonged Exposure protocol (DBT-PE) for trauma, and somatic experiencing for trauma resolution. He also has extensive experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and he practices and teaches mindfulness.

Jeff views his work primarily as helping people learn new ways of relating. This includes how people relate to thought – turning the volume down when they’re too noisy, or listening carefully for new meaning in what was just spoken aloud. It also includes how people relate to emotions – accepting emotions despite having the urge to escape, or deliberately changing them in lieu of getting stuck in emotional ruts. And it includes relating to others – being clear about what we need despite the fear of being vulnerable, or choosing to hold back when there’s a tendency to share too much. One way to learn new ways of relating is with the help of a therapist. For Jeff, therapy relationships are microcosms for learning that can be exported out to broader contexts. His role in this is that he is trustworthy, accepting, radically present, highly skilled, and direct. He ensures that clients feel safe and validated while also insisting change is possible.
